Shramadaan in Laos

Shramadaan means a voluntary contribution which requires physical effort. Volunteering is the best word that describes Shramadaan.

Little did I know how enriching the experience would be when I was selected for the SAP social sabbatical international engagement nine months ago. The initial euphoria of being selected got washed away with constant waves of routine business travel, quarterly business targets and team meetings. All this threw me off track and I almost forgot about this engagement.

Then started the pre-work and conference calls and I must say these brought back the focus within no time. The level of preparation that PYXERA and SAP global CSR team showed was phenomenal. The pre-work discussion was so in depth and well planned that the new realm became a familiar concept even with the crazy flight schedules in between. I started looking forward to this new assignment with excitement. Interacting with the other team members and reading their thoughts was an absorbing exercise, which opened up my mind to new questions. The diverse team members each brought along their own unique world view which was enriching to say the least.

After the pre-work ended, reality really hit when I got to the airport to travel to Laos — this was definitely not going to be another routine work trip. And, here I am with 11 of my fellow colleagues, getting to know them better while relishing the delicacies that came from 8 different countries.

Now, I look forward to this immersive once in a lifetime experience.
