How do you usually spend your Sunday?

My Sunday is always like waking up late, procrastinating some tasks, and cramming things to be passed for Mondays. Sometimes I go to church if my mom invited me so. But, September 29, 2019 was not a typical Sunday for me; ASF tasked us to immerse with the street-sweepers for a day. Before going to the immersion there were already some expectations went to my mind. For sure it’s going to be energy-consuming, a little bit tiring, since it’s going to start at 4 a.m., at the same time, I was looking forward to find joy in the engagement.

ASF made us able to experience things that are outside from our box. Things that we don’t usually do but enlightened us about social realities happening in our surroundings. On that day, we were able to help Ate street-sweeper with her job and gave her some groceries as a “thank you token”. It was very fulfilling in a way that we were able to help someone’s life even in a very small thing. But upon sweeping and talking with ate I was able to realize that their job is uneasy one. To wake up every day 3:00 am in the morning to clean miles of waste by your own is very tiring. This made me think that I should be grateful on what I have in life; to complain less and work harder. To appreciate life and be grateful.

Moreover, as we clean the streets, a bunch of wastes were still observable on the road. This just implies that Davao City is not yet that disciplined at all; that there are still people that irresponsible enough of their own waste. This just made me realize that these people like Ate street- sweeper has an important role in our society, as they are assigned in maintaining the cleanliness of the city. That I must not look someone lesser as a person because of their job or status in life. Because all of us have different function and stories to tell.

This Sunday was indeed not a usual Sunday for me; this time that I was able to see their situation, I will be now more responsible of my waste. I’m going to practice proper waste disposal and also I will invite others to do the same. Moreover, I will be more grateful and appreciative what Lord have given to me. Most especially, I will now become more emphatic to other people and practice little act of charity in every way possible.
