What Did My College Degrees Teach Me

I learned math content knowledge because I majored in mathematics and received a bachelor’s of science degree in mathematics. To teach specific content, you need to major in the content or take lots of content classes.

As for my professional diploma, and my master’s degree in education, I forgot everything I ever learned in my master’s in education program.

I learned everything else I needed to know to teach on the job teaching in the classroom. My work experience has taught me several things:

It didn’t teach me:

College teaches content knowledge, but it doesn’t teach everything else. The best teacher you will ever receive is life. The experiences you experience every day are learning moments. It will teach you far more than any degree you receive in college.
